The Raven is a textile print design that portrays the cycle of life and loss. I used a combination of live and wilted flowers, and cemetery motifs to symbolize the theme.

John Beecham Mutilates His Victims
The main characters of the story, The Alienist, by Caleb Carr, inspired this collection. Each design grouping was based on one of the characters. The richness and diversity of their personalities, backgrounds, and life experiences lent itself to a vast amount of inspiration to the development of this collection. The goal was to illustrate the personalities, experiences, and thought processes of the characters as they interacted with the crimes that took place around them. The mood and aesthetic of the Gilded Age and Gothic literature was interwoven into the essence of each character as well. These designs were then warped or morphed to represent the dark, unsettling, violent murders and unknown nature of mental illness at the time.

The designer wanted a pattern design for an evening dress lining. The idea was the concept of a butterfly. She did not want literal butterflies and spring weather. My goal was to interpret that feeling into a pattern design for textiles.
